In Slovakia an insurance company can financially contribute to patients to the age of 18. The amount of the contribution depends on the seriousness of the anomaly of the dentition. The division into categories according to the seriousness of the anomaly is given Law of health care. The patients pay the difference between the price of the treatment and of the products and the contribution of the insurance company. An insurance company contributes to the orthodontic treatment only once during the patient’s life. If the patient willfully interrupts the treatment for six months or more, the insurance company does not contribute to further treatment.
Patients older than 18 years are not entitled to any refundment from their health insurance. The only exception is with patients with serious inborn anomalies like cleft lip and palate without any age limit.
Every patient is informed of the approximate price of the treatment after the preliminary examination. Information of the price of the appliance is part of the written treatment plan and the patient obtains it before the treatment.
